York’s very own electrical retailer, Herbert Todd & Son, won three awards on Monday at the prestigious ERT Awards, held in London’s Grand Connaught Rooms.
The ERT Awards praise exceptional retailers and staff, showrooms, events and suppliers across the electrical industry. Up for grabs are accolades such as Salesperson of the Year, the Turning Point Award, and Customer Event of the Year.
At this year’s swanky Covent Garden ceremony, Herbert Todd & Son nabbed one of those – the Turning Point Award. But they didn’t stop there – they also took home Domestic Appliances Retailer of the Year and the big one, Independent Electrical Retailer of the Year.
Matt Todd, one of the sons behind the business alongside his brother David, was at the glittering event. He said: “We won the Turning Point Award first, and we would have been happy to just win that. We were not expecting to win the Independent Electrical Retailer of the Year. To be up against such big companies with great longevity and to win absolutely blew us away. We’re on cloud nine.”
Matt also shone in one of the day’s events, when he spoke on a panel of retailers about preparing his family’s business for the future. He said: “It was very interesting to be on the panel. We were asked to think about five things we’d do tomorrow to change our business for the future. One of our key points was that as retailers we need to give customers a reason to come in to store rather than click online – such as to see great demonstrations and experience a bit of retail theatre.”
The ERT magazine that runs the Awards has been running for 128 years, and is recognised as the leading magazine for electrical retailers.
