Yorkshire to host the UK’s top musical talent

The North’s only training orchestra, Vacation Chamber Orchestra (VaCO), will be welcoming the cream of the crop from across the UK’s leading  schools, conservatoires and universities for its summer residential course held in August, one of three per year.
Descending on North Yorkshire, the musicians lucky to be picked for this VaCO course will be offered top notch training in repertoire, working as a team, individual coaching and mentoring and life skills and how to handle auditions and interviews from music and business professionals at the top of their game.
VaCO has been performing at the very highest calibre in the heart of Yorkshire Dales for 25 years. Its  mission is to train the very best musicians and to offer rural areas such as the Dales the opportunity to hear some of the finest repertoire played at world class standard.
The programme chosen for the summer course includes:
Schmitt – Lied et Scherzo
Czyz – Canzona di Barocco
Haydn – Cello Concerto in C – Soloist: Maria Marshall
Vaughan Williams – The Lark Ascending, Soloist: Caroline Heard
Schubert – Symphony No 5

All the students will be able to have opportunity to learn tricks of the trade from our tutors who, this time, will be Tim Lowe (Cello) – Recitalist and chamber musician, Guest Principal Cello of the English Chamber Orchestra and Professor at Guildhall School of Music and Meyrick Alexander (Bassoon) – Former Head of Woodwind at Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, previous Principal Bassoon of Philharmonia Orchestra
Chair of VaCO, Andrew Palmer says “VaCO offers the very best in training by introducing music students to leading exponents in their field, offering opportunities to improve skills and confidence and more importantly promoting  the North as an alternative to London and the south east for training. Anyone who watches or listens to the BBC Young Musician of the Year should come to these concerts as I guarantee they will be bowled over the standards which are bluntly superlative. Do not miss out.”

All concerts begin at  7:30pm and you can hear the programme at the following venues:
Thursday 23 August – Town Hall – GRASSINGTON
Friday 24 August – Parish Church – STOKESLEY
Saturday 25 August – St Peter’s Church – HARROGATE
Sunday 26 August – St Andrew’s Church – AYSGARTH
Monday 27 August – St Olave’s Church – YORK
