THOR’S SÓL ÁST

    Event Description

The team behind York’s popular THOR’S tipi bar is back with SÓL ÁST – the pop-up tipi bar with a summery
vibe. Playing on its Viking heritage, the bar celebrates SÓL ÁST (def. SÓL = sun, ÁST = affection or love in Old
Norse) and will reside in Dean’s Park over the summer months, as part of York Minster’s Heart of Yorkshire
    Festival.
In its new location next to the Minster, two linked canvas tipis adorned with greenery and lanterns will form
the unique venue, combining the indoor cosiness that THOR’S is known for, with a summer theme. A large
outdoor garden with a terrace, offers visitors the chance to enjoy one of the most iconic settings in the
country, with a drink in hand.
A sculpture exhibition entitled SÓL ÁST has been commissioned for the Heart of Yorkshire Festival and will be
staged in both the bar and garden. Displaying several works by renowned Yorkshire sculptor Michael Lyons,
the exhibition pays homage to the theme of sun and light and allows diners and drinkers to enjoy the pieces
in a relaxed environment. Michael comments “I hope that people will benefit from exhibition SÓL ÁST and
will gain a greater understanding of this memorable building that is the Minster and the sculptures which are
exhibited here. The summer bar provides a perfect setting for relaxation and discussion of the experience at
    the conclusion of the visit.”
