Hetherton’s Solicitors

    About us

For more than 70 years Hethertons Solicitors has been advising and supporting businesses and individuals in York and beyond with a wide range of legal matters. Our team or lawyers take great pride in providing a proactive, personal service. We get to know our clients so that we can tailor our advice towards their specific requirements.

Thanks to our seven decades of experience, we are able to deal with a wide range of complicated matters, often to a tight deadline, our model focus on offering cost-effective, value added services to our clients.

Our legal advice is uncomplicated and avoids the use of legal jargon, recognising that those we represent appreciate it when matters are explained in a straightforward manner.

With well-established offices in both York and Boroughbridge, we have an excellent network of local professional contacts across the region, which means we are always able to find solution to our clients’ needs. Among the matters we can assist with include:

    Family law

Our solicitors can advise on matters including divorce, financial settlements, pre and post-nuptial agreements, cohabitation and child arrangements. We also have a dedicated mediation service, which offers clients an alternative way of resolving family disputes.

The firm advises both businesses and individuals on all matters of employment law, including Tribunals, contracts, settlement agreements, redundancy procedures and health and safety legislation. We run the Hethertons Employment Law Package (HELP!), a fixed price service to provide businesses with day-to-day support on employment issues.

    Wills and probate

Hethertons offers clear, compassionate advice on how to draft or update a Will. We can also offer support with issues relating to probate, trusts, Power of Attorney, the Court of Protection and paying for care.

    Dispute resolution

If you get involved in a dispute, it is important to seek advice before the matter escalates. Our team can offer guidance in disputes relating to land, property, Wills, lease extensions and landlord and tenant matters. We also advise business clients on issues including debt recovery, contract disputes, breach of terms, property management and shareholder/partnership disputes.

Buying or selling a home can be a stressful experience and our residential property lawyers are available to offer support at every stage of the process. In 2011, Hethertons became the first law firm in York and one of the first in the UK to achieve the Law Society’s Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS) status.

    Commercial property

Our expert team has decades of experience advising on a wide range of commercial property, from large development sites to high street shops. We can help with all aspects of buying, selling and leasing premises.

    Business Support Unit (BSU)

Hethertons set up this service to provide local businesses with proactive legal advice and support whenever they need it. It is free to register for the BSU, which includes regular email updates, seminars and an introductory meeting.

    Succession planning

Surveys have found that too many business owners fail to make plans for the future. At Hethertons, we can ensure that business assets are taken into full consideration when making a Will, as well as advising on putting a comprehensive succession plan in place for your firm.
