About us

Astek Landscapes is a medium sized family run landscape designers based in York. The owners, the Keast family, have over 30 years experience in Garden Design and Construction and the company was founded on quality workmanship, personal service and high degree of satisfaction for our staff.

Our landscape designers are able to undertake any garden design throughout North Yorkshire. From Skipton to Harrogate and Ripon, our mission is the transformation of your garden to something which would be the envy of your neighbourhood. What's more is the fact we offer a free initial consultation, so you can discuss your requirements further.

Richard Keast

Richard Keast, award winning garden designer focussing on people and their outdoor spaces throughout Yorkshire. Following joining the family landscaping business in 1991, Richard studied horticulture at Askham Bryan College, and then in his mid-twenties studied Garden design at Bishop Burton College to degree level, gaining best student and a silver gilt medal at the Harrogate spring flower show whilst studying. Richard now heads Astek Garden Design & Build, based in York. Together with his team of eight full time landscapers, they design and build bespoke gardens for private clients throughout Yorkshire. Gaining other awards amongst his team including, Gold at Chelsea, Silver Gilt at Hampton Court and The Great Yorkshire Show, Richard continues to focus on people and their homes, to create gardens purpose made to the individual’s needs.

"I was pleased to see the garden change over the weeks. The men had to construct the decking to one side of the garden, they made a solid framework before laying the decking boards in place. This was all done to a high quality and nothing was too much trouble. The existing flags had to be removed, and the design Astek had suggested worked perfectly, the patio now has a curve with setts around the edge and lawn. The planting of the beds around the sides of the garden were done with experience and knowledge of the plants and the whole area was covered with bark mulch to prevent weeds, making it low maintenance. "For a commentary I would say that we wanted a colourful and easily maintained garden to replace a tired and worn out one, but did not have a clear idea of how we could achieve it. Two contractors told us they could cut down trees and remove the leaking pond, but only the third ( Astek ) had good ideas for re-building it and produced a plan and photographic evidence to demonstrate the final effect. The implementation was excellent. The project was efficiently managed, our thoughts were respected, we were always kept informed and the team leader’s skills were high. In the end, we had a garden that complimented the house and was exactly what we did not know we wanted. Terrific job".
