360 Degree Volcano Climb Erupts in York

By Georgina Klavins

York Maze has revealed its latest attraction. The new challenge, named the Volcorno, opens along with the first open day of the York Maze, which is Saturday the 14th of July 2018.

The first of its kind in the UK stands over 4m tall, with a diameter of 17m; volcano climb structures can be found in some indoor play centres, but are usually no more than 90 degrees in a corner or 180 degrees against a wall, which is what makes the York Maze version exciting and different.

The Volcorno is dotted with grips to help challengers climb the incline, in order to reach the top where they can see the views, then slide back down either by the tube slide or the way they came up. Playing is being reinvented and this difficult but fun attraction will let children push their climbing skills to the maximum.

One lucky family got to test out the Volcorno in advance. The Jackson family from Hull won a Facebook competition to officially launch the new Volcorno climb. Kacey and Lewis Jackson were joined by Mum and Dad (Kimberley and Craig) for an after school treat, to test out the new attraction. Even Dad had a go at climbing, and even made it to the top! A York Maze promotional video for the Volcorno, featuring the Jackson family, can be found on their website online: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbDaz5LNXdc.

Tom Pearcy, the owner and creator of the maze, said “Each year we try to bring something new and exciting to the maze, many of our attractions are unique so we are delighted to open the UK’s first 360 degree Volcorno climb. We have lots of amazing play areas for younger children but the Volcorno climb will offer a new challenge particularly for older children.”
