Ask Italian launches autumn menu following refurbishment

06 November 2017

A York Italian celebrated re-opening in style with the launch of a new autumn menu and blogger hosted dinner this month.

For the Launch, lifestyle and fitness blogger, Em Sheldon, hosted a dinner party were guests sampled the new dishes available.

Ask Italian is one of the first restaurants in the UK to pioneer purple pesto in its autumn menu, offering visitors the opportunity to grow their own by giving out free seeds packs.

The Instagramable pasta dish comes with fresh egg tagliatelle and green pesto too.

Your Local Link sent Lifestyle Editor, Krystal Starkey, to try out the new dishes:

“It was great to sample each of the new dishes on the menu. I’m particularly partisan when it comes to food and it was easy to pick out favourites from the word go. My selection of the starters would be the  Antipasti Fritto, a selection of calamari, chicken, mushrooms al forno and zucchini fritte, and the Pumpkin Arancini - crispy risotto and pumpkin balls with a spicy tomato dip. From the main courses, the Spinach and Ricotta Girasole was a firm favourite; soaked in a mascarpone cream sauce, it was super indulgent without feeling heavy, I’m also a big pizza fan so the spicy Salsiccia won me over. Fiery sausage meat and roquito peppers make the perfect tonic to sweet caramelised onions and fontal cheese. Always living for dessert, The yoghurt panna cotta was creamy with the right amount of zing from accompanying raspberries.”

The Georgian building closed in July for a £400,000 refurbishment carried out by the York Conservation Trust alongside Ask. The ceiling was repaired as well as the replacement of 11 Murano glass chandeliers.

Paul Tennant, ASK Italian’s General Manager for York, said: “I started at ASK Italian 9 years ago, and have worked my way up from starting in Livingston as a waiter to becoming the general manager here in our beautiful York restaurant. Whilst York’s been closed I’ve even been looking after an area in the South of England.  It’s testament to a committed team, and great support network within ASK Italian that we’ve got the same great team here again now that we’ve re-opened. It’s great to be back, and we can’t wait for the next few months, and to celebrating Christmas with York!”

The newly restored restaurant has seating for up to 450 guests, with a luxury interior and elegant decor.
