Canon Glyn Webster announced as next Bishop of Beverley

In a surprise meeting of press and Minster staff this morning, the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, announced that Glyn Webster, Canon Chancellor and acting Dean of York Minster, is to be the next Bishop of Beverley.

Glyn joined the Minter's College of Canon's, the group that oversees the running of the Minster, in 2000 and since then has been acting Dean twice. Prior to his career in the Church of England, Glyn worked as a nurse.

He is to remain in his post at York until the end of the year and will be formally promoted to the position of Bishop on 25^th January.
