Get digging

Take part in the Poppleton Bar archaeological dig.

City of York Council is offering you a unique chance to take part in an archaeological dig on the site of York's newest Park & Ride. From 24th September experienced and novice community archaeologists will be able to work alongside professionals on the site of Poppleton Bar adjacent to the A59 and Northfields Lane.

Residents will be able to work on every phase of the archaeological project, which is one of the first of its kind in the UK, from geophysics, field-walking, excavation, analysis and publication. It'll be just like Time Team (without the camera crew and three day time limit).

Sonja Crisp, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, said, "In this year of York 800 celebrations, we've been learning so much about the city's past 800 years and now, local people can take part in bringing even more discoveries to light about outer York."

People wanting to take part in the Poppleton Bar Dig are invited to a public meeting in Poppleton Centre, Main Street, Upper Poppleton, York YO26 6JT, on 12th September at 7pm to find out more and sign-up. To find out more visit www.york.gov.uk
